Launching the Brazil Nut Harvest in Suriname
Highlights the Tuhka nut harvest and internal leadership changes
Dear Brainforest follower,
At Brainforest Association, Valentine's Day stood in the center for our most precious forests, climate and biodiversity! This is what our heart is beating for: to regenerate and protect 20 million hectares of forest by 2030.
Harvesting season in Suriname started
The new Tuhka season starts officially in February! The villagers reported that the first nuts had fallen and they are scrambling to collect them. As it is currently the rainy season in Suriname, the nuts must dry for around four weeks before the production process can start beginning of March.
Thankfully, the Monitoring Team is on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly - they consist of six members and collect data each month. They monitor the Tuhka trees, the agouti, the agricultural plots and the monkeys. They are in hope of harvesting a 15,000kg of raw nuts from the 22 clusters that contain 50-60 trees each.
Together with BioTara we will then support villagers to sell their Brazilnut oil to the global market in a franchise approach. Have a look at an interview of a future franchisee about the impact on her community and how she views gold mining.
Announcement of internal board changes
For 2023 we had some strategic changes in the management team 🧠 🌳
Our co-founders, Daniel Naeff (left) and Susanne Wittig (middle), have stepped away from their roles in the management team to join our Board and Advisory Board, respectively. They continue to provide invaluable support to our core team.
Additionally, as a key addition to our board, we are welcoming Amir Suissa (right), an experienced unicorn entrepreneur. He will support us in shaping the venture-building approach with his serial-entrepreneurial expertise.
Closing
Thank you for your believe in us and support to regenerate the world's forests. Together, we will achieve our objective to solve the climate and biodiversity crisis entrepreneurially by regenerating and protecting 20 million hectares of forest by 2030.
