Introducing the 2024 cohort of the Biodiversity Lab Venture Program and their groundbreaking solutions

Dear Brainforest follower,

We kicked off our Brainforest Biodiversity Lab Venture Program! We are collaborating with a diverse group of teams dedicated to biodiversity, guiding them through their critical validation phases over a period of 10 weeks. We cannot wait for the pitch event to see which of these innovative solutions will evolve into the next Brainforest Biodiversity Lab spin-off venture. 🌳

Meet our 2024 Cohort

Our venture-building team, Camille, Tommy, Nir, Julie and Gioia are now actively working alongside the ventures. Let us introduce you to the five revolutionary biodiversity ventures that made the cut out of 50+ applications.

Boosterra

Boosterra is transforming nature finance by revolutionizing the voluntary biodiversity credit market, aiming to make it as easy as booking a hotel room online. Launched in January 2024 by environmental advocates, the company connects biodiversity credit providers with companies seeking positive biodiversity impact.

Their B2B2C marketplace facilitates partnerships between nature stewards and companies dedicated to transparent and verified environmental impacts, also providing marketing support to engage eco-conscious customers.

Leeana

Using AI and satellite technology, Leeana helps companies to accurately measure and manage their biodiversity footprint with their own proprietary high-resolution geospatial datasets across multiple biodiversity dimensions.

Businesses can identify high impact locations and monitor the surrounding nature over time. Additionally, this data can directly be used to report on relevant biodiversity frameworks, such as the TNFD and the CSRD.

NoArk

NoArk is at the forefront of environmental innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology to decode the language of the Earth. Their flagship solution, EcoGuard, is a sophisticated environmental monitoring system that offers real-time insights into ecological threats such as wildfires, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss.

By combining advanced sensors, edge analytics, and AI, EcoGuard enables early detection, rapid response, and proactive mitigation of environmental risks. From insurance companies and government agencies to corporations and conservation groups, NoArk empowers stakeholders to protect ecosystems, mitigate climate change impacts, and build a sustainable future for all.

Orijin

Orijin helps fight deforestation by solving EUDR compliance for producers and importers of coffee and cocoa, in Africa and Latin America.

This by helping producers digitalize their data from the first mile of production, often deep in the rural countryside, bringing them monetizable business insights and traceability with ease that hasn’t been accessible for them before.

Theobroma

Theobroma is a digital-native brand that offers plant-based cacao and cupuassu superfoods, aiming to boost nutrition and aid Amazon rainforest conservation. It supports local communities through agroforestry and wild harvesting, and promotes socio-emotional education in local schools.

The brand employs women affected by motor scalping accidents and plans to sell its products, including various chocolate treats and butters, in schools across São Paulo and other major cities. Theobroma is based at the Patú Anú Eco-Farm School in Breves, Pará, where 10 hectares are dedicated to agroforestry and a processing center is underway.

Green Pioneers: Driving Progress in Biodiversity and Sustainability

From Orijin’s innovative solutions for traceability in coffee and cocoa production to NoArk’s advanced EcoGuard system protecting against environmental threats, from Leeana’s AI-driven biodiversity management to Boosterra’s transformative approach to biodiversity credits, and finally, Theobroma’s dedication to plant-based cacao and cupuassu superfoods that support Amazon rainforest conservation and local communities— each venture is making significant strides toward improving biodiversity.

These efforts are crucial as we aim to regenerate and protect 20 million hectares of biodiverse forests by 2030.

We are currently in week 2 of the 10-week Biodiversity Lab Venture Program 🌳. The Decision Committee meeting is scheduled for June 10, at which point we will select the winner of the cohort. The selected team will have the chance to become our newest venture, receiving intensive support from Brainforest for the next six months.

Together, we are forging a path to a sustainable and biodiverse future. Join us in celebrating these visionaries and their contributions to environmental conservation.
